Our extended fam GUSTO @gusto.misc will touch down at Sweet Abyss for the first time with a LIVE set, combining influences of Dominician heritage, Bronx-bred groove inclination & over a decade of shaping & influencing the sound of Pittsburgh dance music, especially through his involvement with label and event series DETOUR, one of the collectives which makes up HOT MASS. Currently, also co-overseeing the RESPIRA event series, the MISC label head is a lover of eclectic and driving sound across the galaxies of life.
Wavey multidimensional interdisciplinary afro-futuristic medicinal sound scientist VIII DORSEY @viiidorsey will conduct a LIVE set of healing noises & warm vibrations, filled with lumincescent rhythms & beats to expand your being to. Her creative practice often centers around themes of origins, overcoming, and liberation - embodying an approach to art that is as unbounded as the freedom we seek for ourselves.
LEMONLINE @__lemonline fills out the DJ portion of the night, best known for their recurring PLANET LUSH & CELESTIAL BODIES events, imagining each dancer & artist as beings meant for something cuter & more evocative than our Earthly confines. Spinning a wide range of euphoric sounds, anthems, & bops across the listening spectrum, we are excited to have their style grace the intimate confines of Bantha Tea Bar.
On visuals duty, is the return of Sweet Abyss resident MALZOF @jmal_malzof who will be taking their signature style of TDM-inflected visual sauce to the walls of the tea bar. During Viii Dorsey's live set, they will pull from an archive of media direct from Viii Dorsey and arranged by Malzof onto the projection.
Sweet Abyss is an event to center people that have run afoul of societal expectations playing a wide variety of fun, strange, rhythmic sounds to dance or move their minds to. Dance to all kinds of synth-wave, trip hop, dub, disco, & electronic explorations.
